Connect Systems CS800 Firmware Upgrade
I need to do a firware upgrade on my friends
CS800. He has not had any update since he got the radio. So he'll be
going from original or near original firmware/cpu to the newest. Is
there a specific order I need to follow like CPU first then Firmware? I
am a bit confused on the process.
Thanks,
Rob

The first thing to check is what versions of firmware are currently
installed in the main radio and the front panel. This is best done via
the front panel display and the menu system. You need to go through the
Main Menu to Utilities to Radio Info, then find the Firmware Version and
Front Panel version. The complexity of the update will depend on where
you are starting from.
For the most part, you can directly install the current version of both the main and front panel firmware. There are a few instances where you'll need an intermediate step, particularly if the radio was manufactured prior to July of 2015. For radios this old, an authorization code will be required to use the latest updates. Also, if the current firmware in the radio was the 1K channel / 1K contacts version, you'll need to do a conversion of the code plug to work with the 2K channel / 65K contacts version.
None of this is particularly difficult, but we admit it can be confusing if you have not done it before or do not do it often.

After
much reading of the documentation on your website I was able to
determine where to start. The radio I am working with was a very early
production model so it needed all the steps as outlined in the
documentation. So far I am up to the point of needing authorization
which Chris is working on now.
Basically for
those who are wondering, all updates are made via the rear of the main
unit with the exception of the front panel updates which use the RJ-45
to USB cable. Code plugs are loaded/read via the rear connections as
well. I followed the instructions posted under the first update listed
on the Connect System site. The instructions were clear and I had no
issue updating the firmware and bootloader. From there I went up to the
latest firmware and have to wait for Software License Authorization to
proceed. All that is left to do is to load the newest firmware and CPS
to match, then make a new codeplug.
I
didn't "Read" the radio prior to upgrading from the original firmware
so it erased the code plug loaded into the radio. The owner had the
radio programmed by someone else and I don't have access to the code
plug so I have to write one from scratch.

thanks for sharing ... it is not understandable by most, the ones that feel everything should be behind a pay-wall or logon.
