The front panel programming cable uses a Prolific Integrated Circuit. This chip requires you to have a driver in your PC to use that cable. This cable uses a chip that is probably not compatible with the Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating system. The documentation within the ZIP files explains how to determine what version of the Prolific Chip you have and what Microsoft Operating system it is compatible with.

Just in case those that write the firmware monitor this blog, I have a wish list idea for a future firmware upgrade, an Auto Power Off (APO) feature. I have an ID800 and IC706 in my car and both are setup to automatically turn off after 30 minutes of no use. This is a great battery saving feature.

How many of us have left a rig on over night only to find we have that flat batter in our cars the next morning?

APO is a must have feature of any radio I plan on using mobile.

So if you firmware guys read this, keep it in mind for version 2.0.06 ;)

  3. I just today received my CS 800 radio. It is Hardware H1.0.01, Firmware V1.o.01. This appears to be an old firmware version. Should not the radio ship with the newest firmware? Also the radio will nor turn on unless the serial port programing cable is plugged into the usb port. If I unplug the usb end of the cable from the PC the radio goes off. Help please.
